Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, Chesterfield Town Hall at 2 pm - What Was So Great About Spinning with the A. Minor Wheel Head?

In the nineteenth century, nearly one million wooden spinning wheel heads were manufactured in Chesterfield Factory.  What made this spinning wheel accessory patented by A. Minor so important to women across the country?

Loranne Carey Block, a spinner from Antrim, will answer this question by demonstrating the use of the wheel head on the great wheel and by sharing with us what she has learned about the use of this popular Chesterfield product.  She will bring wheels, and we will be using our wheel.

The speaker will show how the wheel and wheel head are set up.  Then the audience will have an opportunity to try a hand at spinning.  It should be an interesting afternoon, learning about an important part of our past and a craft that continues to be practiced into the twenty-first

Wednesday, October 15, 2003 - Annual Meeting  The potluck supper theme this year is OLD MAPS.  We will be displaying several of our old maps, and will have copies of many on sale. Bring any you have that might be of interest.   Town Hall at 6:30 pm.

Sunday, October 19, 2003 - Fall Foliage Walk  “You Can’t Get There from Here,” a mystery tour of an old home site in Chesterfield. Meet at the Town Hall at 1:30 pm to carpool.  Moderate hike, getting back about 4:30 pm.
